TMI, LLC: The First One-Stop Shop for Complete Range of Non-Phthalate PVC Products! |
|
Pittsburgh, PA – June 2009 Many people have never heard of phthalates (pronounced ‘tha-lāt’), and even more are unaware of what they are or what they do. Phthalates are plasticizers that make flexible vinyl softer. They have been used in the production of vinyl products, including flooring, shower curtains, and children’s toys for decades. A recent ban of children’s toys containing phthalates in the EU and in California has caused a number of issues. Bans that pass in California, like Prop 65, usually gain momentum and move across the country. There has been an increased demand for non-phthalate products, including PVC and fabrics. Where can manufacturers find vinyl and fabrics that contain no phthalates? |

TMI, LLC, the nation’s leading manufacturer and supplier of flexible PVC products, is the first supplier in the United States to carry a full line of non-phthalate flexible vinyl. To help manufacturers meet stringent production requirements, TMI has non-phthalate clear flexible PVC film, strip, and sheet, as well as a line of PVC coated fabrics.
While research shows that phthalates pose no health risk to humans, researchers hypothesize that exposure to phthalates, especially at a young age, may cause reproductive problems. Until now, many manufacturers have had no choice but to use vinyl and PVC coated fabrics containing phthalates. The TMI Group of Companies is the first to offer a broad line of non-phthalate products. Our ongoing commitment as a market and innovation leader is to develop next generation flexible PVC product solutions that meet and exceed market and government demands.
Joe Peilert, CEO of the TMI Group of Companies, comments, “Outside of legal requirements, many customers are realizing the opportunity to sell products that do not contain phthalates as a way to differentiate themselves from the competition.”

| Jos Kleynjans passes baton on to Joe Peilert as new CEO |
|
(September 2008) - After 20 successful years, Jos Kleynjans, the founder of the TMI Group of Companies, has stepped aside as CEO effective September 26, 2008.
Jos will continue his role as a shareholder and member of the Board of Directors. He has been a respected leader in the flexible PVC, Door, and
Material Handling industries for the past three decades. Joe Peilert, active President of the TMI Group of Companies, will be serving as the new CEO.
Jos Kleynjans came to the United States and fulfilled the American dream. With his wife Annie, Jos moved to the United States from Holland. In 1988, they started TMI Inc, Trading and Manufacturing Industries, in Pittsburgh, PA. TMI began as a small, domestic manufacturer of PVC strip doors. Under Jos’ leadership and direction, TMI has grown into an internationally received market leader in the flexible PVC and energy control industry.
In 2006, Jos put the company in a position for rapid growth and development by bringing in Shoreview Industries, a private equity group that invests in companies with a strong track record of market leadership and expansion potential. Their backing has allowed for a number of acquisitions in the past two years.
TMI plans on accelerated expansion through both organic and acquisition growth. Joe Peilert, who started with the TMI Group of Companies in October 2007 as President, is taking over as the new CEO. Within his first three months, Joe led the acquisition and integration of two companies: Win Plastics, LLC, a key supplier, and FlexBarrier, a Georgia based competitor. More acquisitions are expected over the next twelve months as TMI continues with its strategy of accelerated growth.
The TMI Group of Companies will continue to operate from its headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. |

Based in Pittsburgh, PA, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality flexible PVC products and energy control solutions has continued to experience years of rapid growth and development through product innovation and strategic acquisitions.
TMI, LLC, Trading and Manufacturing Industries, began in 1988 as a small manufacturer of PVC strip doors. Within two decades, under the leadership of founder and CEO Jos Kleynjans, TMI has become the market leader in the flexible PVC industry. TMI has introduced lines of air doors, loading dock accessories, and additional PVC products including swinging impact doors and industrial curtains. In recent years, TMI has added lines of flexible roll-up bug screens, roll-up security doors, as well as the patented Rip-A-Strip™ and Save-T Loc™ hardware system. The diversified product line has given TMI the opportunity to be a one-stop-shop to thousands of distributors throughout the world.
In 1998, TMI acquired Curtron Products, the food service division of TMI, LLC. Another food service acquisition followed in 2002, when TMI acquired Safety Seal. Over the past twelve months acquisition activity has accelerated with the backing of the private equity group ShoreView Industries. In September 2007, TMI, LLC acquired a state-of-the-art PVC extrusion company, with a capacity of 60,000 lbs of PVC per day. Two months later, TMI acquired FlexBarrier Products, a Georgia-based manufacturer of strip doors, industrial curtains and roll-up screen doors.
Today, the TMI Group of Companies operates as four divisions: Save-T™ Solutions services the overhead door and material handling market, Curtron™ caters to the food service industry, Vinyl Solutions™ provides coated, laminated and bulk PVC products and conversion services to industrial OEM customers, and last but not least TMI Export Solutions. TMI operates out of four strategically placed locations throughout the United States, allowing the company to meet customer demands in effective and cost-efficient manners. When asked about the success of the company, TMI President Joe Peilert comments: “Our customers have always appreciated TMI’s dedication to product quality, quick delivery and our extensive product offering, allowing for one-stop shopping. But, even more important than these success ingredients is our unwavering commitment to our distributors, TMI will not sell direct unlike many of our competitors.”
Looking ahead, Peilert comments: ”driven by innovation and the ability to meet customer needs through its extensive custom conversion services, TMI is positioned for continued growth and expansion in the upcoming years. More acquisitions are planned for the next 12 months, allowing the company to expand its geographic foot print. The addition of new dealers is a continuous process, allowing for quick service and professional installations throughout the entire country.”
